As part of our mission to St Mary’s High School Grimsby, we were lucky enough to get to work with the wider community and today we were working with all the KS2 pupils from St Mary’s and St Joseph’s Primary schools.

We had an amazing day with lots of fun, games, singing and celebrating. We continued the work done by the Pupils at St Mary’s High School and added to the art work already created in preparation for our big celebration.

For the first time all the pupils from the 3 schools were together to celebrate and they celebrated in style with an amazing spirit.

Enjoy the photos, and keep checking back for what happened next because the end of the school day was the start of our preparations for the evenings community mass, and as always photo’s and video will be on-line soon.

It’s the end of another amazing day! Today we worked with Fisher House and a few students from St Bede’s, and you guys definitely brought a lot of energy and enthusiasm to everything we did, meaning everyone got involved and we all have a lot of great memories from the day.

Your trees were absolutely awesome and the effort you put into them showed how much you care about the theme of our week. We were all so impressed with how well you worked together as a group, especially when completing the challenges to win different materials for your tree houses.

You were all so welcoming and fun to be around and we loved getting to know a lot of you better in groups or just getting to talk to you at breaks.

The Liturgy that we ended with was really good and was a great way to bring us together at the end of such an amazing day. Well done to everyone who took part! It was also great to see some familiar faces from yesterday at the Liturgy!

Looking forward to getting to know you all more throughout the rest of the week!

Well the first day is over already, and what a day it’s been. We worked with Clitherow house today, and they started the week off with a brilliant day. We had a great whole school assembly followed by the start of our session with Clitherow. We looked at our theme which is “Everything changes but you” by looking at a movie clip, and then going into groups to get creative!

We finished with a house liturgy and lots of happy memories!

Hey guys what a great weekend I had meeting you all. You were all so nice and great to chat to, especially at meal times when we saw you most. You seemed to have had a brill retreat which is great and you took to the circus trick games well.. I couldn’t do any when I gave it a go. You dressed beautifully at your formal .. good job. Hope you have a good year at your youth group and had a worthwhile retreat. Take care guys

Sinoia

You were all really friendly and easy to talk to at meal times, and I loved all the circus tricks and stuff you could all do – they were amazing. I hope you all enjoyed the weekend and got something from it. I enjoyed playing Frisbee with you and I hope you enjoyed it too. I hope you keep enjoying your youth group and good luck for the future.

Don

It was really good having you guys up, and lovely to see a few familiar faces! I really enjoyed watching all of you perfecting your circus skills, and also your Frisbee abilities.

Meal times were really good, it was great chatting to you all! At your formal, you all looked really smart! I hope you enjoyed your weekend, and I hope to see some of you up with the Becket sometime perhaps.

Take care

Steph

Hey guys,
It was so nice meeting all of you this weekend! You were all so friendly and enthusiastic to be up here which is always good to see. Hope you all enjoyed your time.  Depsite the team not leading any sessions I feel we all got to know each other quite well, especially on the walk and playing frisbee outside! Thankyou so much for bringing all that circus equipment aswell, that was some serious fun right there. I’m currently thinking of joining cirque du soleil? I’ll let you know how it works out.
Hope you all come up again next year.

Peace

Joe

I absolutely loved having you guys up for a week on retreat here, you were so much fun, and I absolutely loved playing Ultimate Frisbee with you guys, sorry about the injuries and loved playing mac-line with like a million of us in the line.  I loved how everyone just got involved and I’ll never forget Fair Trade Man on stage, neither will I forget the line of the week, “Cheap and Tasty”, as the selling line for a Kit-Kat. I hope you take Frisbee to the world and get everyone playing, and I hope you never forget our huge game of the muffin man and pony, which I know you all enjoyed. I loved all the speeches at the formal, they were all great and all funny apart from mine, which was amazingly cheesy. I hope you’ve all enjoyed the week as much as me.

Good luck with exams, you’ll do fine. Enjoy yourselves and stay in touch.

Don

What an amazing first senior group you guys were! It was such a fun weekend and all of you threw yourselves into every activity from the; ‘Equestrian of Sport’ to the Affirmations, which were really nice and an awesome way to end our week together. A big shout out to my small group; ‘N.I.G.E.L’, you guys were simply the best, as the song goes. You shared together so well in the ‘Facebook in reality’ session, and were full of ideas for Reconciliation and the ‘Changing our World’ sessions, I couldn’t believe how well you responded to the latter, and the truly amazing ideas which you guys came up, which were far beyond my expectations so a massive well done! All the ideas were also easy to do in and around school as well! Everyone else’s were so funny to watch from the fitness video to Fairtrade man!  Variety show was so much fun, some of the acts were hilarious, but some also really nice to listen to and watch, hope you all enjoyed our team act!

Frisbee all the way guys, well happy we introduced you lot to ‘Mack-Line!’ The workshops were awesome, and the drama with the 1st workshop did was so funny. We’ll gloss over the injuries in ‘Ultimate Frisbee’ ‘cause it’s still on awesome game! Definite line of the weekend for me was from the ‘Equestrian of Sport’…’neigh up me duck!’, absolute quality. Well done to my group for winning the race!

Hopefully see you soon fellas,

Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Dave

Hey everyone
The team and I were feeling nervous before the retreat but we were really excited about our first senior group. You have really set the bar high for all future year 11′s.
A big shout out to CHUBBS, our group was just amazing and by far the best. Well done to you all for getting stuck in a making the most out of the retreat. Chubbs you were awesome at all our group tasks and we clearly had the best horse and best product to save the world, Mc Fairtrade will save the world one day.
Thank you to you all for making the retreat amazing and it was great to see you change as a year group and grow closer as a community. A big thanks for the affirmations.
All the best for the future and I hope to see you come up for mass or the open retreats.
Matt

What an amazing week we had together! I enjoyed every minute of it! A big hello to my small group ‘Elmo.’ Thanks guys for being such an amazing small group, you got involved in everything that we did and I really appreciate that! ‘September’ will forever remind me of you guys and our fairtrade farm and the unfair factory! That advert was well good, and you worked really hard on it so well done!

Equestrian of sport on the first night was great, and even though our horse (pig!) Gary didn’t win, he still did very well! Everyone’s horses looked great! The Emmaus walk was a highlight of the week, and it was great to see you all get on so well with your partners with no complaints.

Reconciliation was really good, all the groups came up with some amazing ideas, and it was very reflective. The prayer journey too was great, and it was lovely to see how seriously you took it and how respectful you were.

Making facebook a reality was a lot of fun, and it was very funny to see all your different status’. The formal evening was lovely, and everyone looked very smart in their formal clothes. All the speeches were amazing, and very funny!

Affirmations on the final day was really nice, and thanks to my group for doing it so well and writing some lovely messages to each other!

I hope year 11 goes well for you! Good luck

Steph

Helooo everyone!
Hope all is well now you’re back at school. I want to say a BIG thankyou to all that came up, you seriously made the week for us team and staff…you guys were amazing!
A special thankyou to my group the ‘Tree Huggers’, you are all seriously the coolest and nicest people I can ever hope to meet up here! I’ve never met a group that were as chilled out and relaxed as me…it was like looking into a mirror of myself. The way you lot just put every ounce of effort into making Kanye the horse was just inspirational. Seeing as our horse was the only one that resembled a horse in anyway, I still don’t understand how we didn’t win?! Ahwell, at least we had fun. Thankyou all for your nice messages in my affirmations aswell. Seriously warmed my heart!
Hope you all enjoyed your time up here, so glad we got you all into frisbee aswell! I know me, Dave and Don were especially impressed by your throwing skills! If we ever create an ultimate frisbee team you lot are all welcome to join!
The talent show was also legendary aswell as disturbing in some ways…I still don’t understand the obsession with the marshmallow man?!?!
Thankyou so much to all of you

Peace
Joe
p.s. Thanks for teaching me how to walk on air! I’m currently teaching the rest of team.

The teams first senior week retreat and what a retreat it was, you guys have set the standard high J. From the minute you arrived I could sense it would be a good week as you were all so friendly and enthusiastic to be here. When we first played Pony I worried .. but by the end of the week it was the most popular game of the week as well as the muffin man(he still hasn’t returned though). You were great on the walks and especially the one on Thursday. It was great chatting to you all at mealtimes, my fave meal had to be the roast pork and banana angel delight- purely because our table got sooo much hehe!! You all dressed so well at our first formal and was delighted on how much you all took part in the variety show ( although im onto the Darren brown mind tricks) and then you all danced well at the disco. Your horses were all fab but my groups were better as it looked like a turtle and was just awesome and that was why we won ( with Dave’s group). Big shout out to my group although I still cant pronounce our group name haha!

Have an amazing year and hope to see you again this year. Sinoia
